Delta Central Senatorial Election Begins With Low Turnout



The election for the seat of the Senator representing Delta senatorial district in the Senate commenced amidst heavy security presence in all the 8 local government area under Delta central senatorial district.
While monitoring the election in Ughelli north and south local government area as well as Uvwie and Okpe local government area of Delta state, our correspondent who was on ground to monitor the election disclosed that the election witnessed low turnout of voters at all the polling centres visited, even though some of the shops and business premises were under lock, most of the indigenes of the area gathered in groups in front of their compounds discussing.
It was also reported that as at 11:30am, INEC officials were yet to arrive polling units, while some electorates arrived polling centres as early as 8am for accreditation; the electoral officials were not on ground to commence the process.
Candidates Express Optimism
Voting started at about 1:30pm in most of the local government areas in the Delta central senatorial district election in Delta state.
As electorates cast their votes, candidates of different political parties contesting for the seat expressed optimism that they will emerge victorious in the election.
Speaking to Channels Television after casting his vote, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress O’Tega Emerhor said  his party remains the only party that will liberate the Urhobo nation from the shackles of under development adding that he remains a candidate to beat in the election.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Emmanuel Aguariavwodo has insisted that PDP is the only party in Delta state and he has no doubt about him emerging victorious at the polls.
However, some supporters of the All Progressives Congress have accused INEC officials in otu geremi, Ughelli south local government area of the state  of collaborating with the people’s Democratic Party to disenfranchise their supporters as INEC officials have refused to conduct elections in Ewu 1,2,3 wards and Ekaprame ward in the local government area.
Although, supporters of People’s Democratic Party have debunked all these allegations stating that it is obvious that APC will lose the election.
